Guru Purnima – Is a tradition celebrated in India as the honouring of the guru, the mentor or the teacher
The first full moon after the summer solstice in the month of Ashadha (July-August), is known as Guru Purnima.
Today I would like to honour my teachers.
When I first discovered yoga over 20 years ago, I didn’t understand the meaning nor the importance of a teacher, besides that I would learn from someone competent.
I was always relying on my intuition, I learned from my mistakes and my successes and tabled through life yearning to be spiritual.
The true meaning of a teacher came to me when I got to know Savitri and Aadil, at first they were like any other teachers, you take what you can and continue to you look for more. But it was different with these two.
Instead of searching for more on the outside, they taught me to look inside. Getting to know Purna Yoga I got attracted to the lifestyle and complete approach to life. Here they were teaching with all the wisdom they have gathered in their lives, sharing with their students from their experience, sincerely and authentically.
But like in any relationship there are always ups and downs and it took me a while to understand how important they are for me, how they taught me the meaning of ego and love. Especially the ego, it tries to stay alive when you realise you face it, during one’s search for truth. Here the road can get bumpy. Then the one realisation I had was to never judge, which is an every day practice in itself.
What I love about Aadil is his charm, his etiquette and his kindness, a big man with a big heart. I remember him saying in class something like: “I can give you information or I can give you knowledge”, with a grin on his face. His teaching often blows my mind.
Savitri talks about creating heaven on earth, reminding me when I was young and naive, I dreamed of a better world, a world of peace. With the help of Savitri’s Heartfull Meditation techniques I am able to know what I want and to fight for it. Whatever comes up in life I have the tools to stand strong.
On this day I feel everlasting gratitude to the people who showed me the way to my heart, Savitri and Aadil. Thank you for opening a place in me which I knew was there, but didn’t know how to access, a love that is without limits.
@aadilyoga and @savitri are the founders of @purnayoga, the @purnayogacollege and @aliveandshinecenter
With Gratitude and Love
